How to Sip Tequila

If slamming a shot back followed by a lick of lime and/or salt is your preferred way of drinking your favorite tequila, we at AsomBroso  are here to help you out. Firstly, you're doing it wrong!

Let me explain. Tequila in today’s age has gravitated to become a much more sophisticated liquor that can become an amazing experience rather than a teleporter  to  a good buzz! This is especially present in fine tequilas such as AsomBroso.

Let’s begin.

Step 1- If I didn’t make myself clear, let me reiterate; ditch the lime and salt!

Step 2- Select your favorite 100% Blue Agave tequila!

Lucky for you, I know AsomBroso is your favorite and we only use 100% Blue Agave! The other option to 100%’s are called “ mixtos“  tequilas which use mixed agave species combined with added sugars and coloring. Basically a recipe for hangovers!

Step 3 – Get the proper glassware.

A brandy snifter is recommended for fine tequilas as it opens the nose and lets the aroma enlighten your senses. A champagne glass works as well. If you must, a tall shot glass is a last resort.

Step 4- Swirl the tequila gently.

I must stress, I do mean very gently. Long circular movement. Tequila is not wine, it does not need much activity to release is aroma. Too much motion can cause the tequila to be “angry” releasing a deeper fiery taste and smell due to the higher alcohol content. Swirl for 5 seconds and dip your nose no deeper then the edge of the glass and inhale.

Roll the tequila around the side of the glass. Watch as the tequila drips down to the base. The longer and thicker the tequila drips are, the more body the tequila has. AsomBroso is extremely full bodied tequila.

Step 5- The best part, tasting.

Sip slow and let the tequila rest on you tongue for about 3 seconds. The temperature from your mouth will “melt” the tequila releasing its full taste. After 3 seconds swish the tequila gently side to side.

Congrats, you now know how to sip tequila like a professional!

Here is AsomBroso's top 4 sipping tequilas, though every tequila we make is still perfectly suited for sipping. Gran Reserva Extra Anejo, 11 Year Vintage Extra Anejo, The Collaboration Extra Anejo, El Platino Blanco

BONUS TIP-SANGRITA- Perhaps straight tequila isn’t exactly your thing. You may want to have a chaser or you strictly drink margaritas and other cocktails. Well, sip your tequila with Sangrita. This is a traditional drink in Mexico that is sipped along side tequilas.

Here's is the recipe

  • 5 1/2 ounces tomato juice (not V8)
  • 5 ounces orange juice
  • 1 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
  • 2 dashes Tabasco
  • 1 pinch salt

Combined ingredients and enjoy!
